i would write the letter to schs inviting them to join the function and allow us to present.

Details of short presentations for school (15 to 30 minutes)

1.      The presentation should be made to the environmental-related clubs / all students in the schools.

2.      If poster can be provided to school during the presentation, we may persuade schools clubs to start promoting immediately.

3.      The drafted format of the presentation is listed:

-         what the situation is on the Earth

- Global Warming on Earth has been well known by public. The temperature of the Earth is still increasing rapidly and it almost becomes the highest record in the nearest 2 million years. The most special thing is that the arming?effect is globally and cannot be explained by the mechanism of nature. Scientists from different countries reminded that we must take remedial actions NOW. As the release of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere increases rapidly in the 20^th century, the reduction of carbon dioxide has become a major issue for lowering the rate of global warming. Therefore, every person, private and government bodies must now take the first step to begin of all activism to stop destroying the Earth.  

-         Content of the campaigns

-         The proposed activity will be a proposal writing competition. Participants in teams would be working under the guidance of student advisors who come from universities to draft a proposal of a green campaign to be implemented in their own schools at a later stage of the competition or the next school year (2008-2009). After the competition, they are required to hand in a report of their work, in whatever formats, which may be re-organized and be comprised as a publication.

-         Aims of the campaign

1.      To arouse awareness of participants towards various environmental issues (Global warming?).

2.      To breed a group of environmental ambassadors who would further promote environmental friendly attitude to their schoolmates and friends.

3.      To build up connections between secondary schools so as to facilitate future joint-school events.

-         how to apply

- Students/club members/club committees can participate in the proposal in groups. Generally, there is restriction that only 1 submission can be submitted for each school. However, if there are more than 1 application groups for a school, Green Platform will try to persuade the applicants to form in a group. The deadline of proposal submitted to the Green Platform will be set. The proposed items in the proposal will be carried out by the group in the next school year (2008-2009). The interested students can contact the related clubs or contact Green Platform. Deadline of application, proposal submission will be set.

-         how students/clubs can be involved in the campaign

- The Green Platform will provide some design works (e.g. poster, leaflets of the campaign) to clubs for promoting the campaign. Clubs can help to co-organize and have announcements of campaign to students. Interested students can form groups to discuss the ways to improve the present situation on Earth and implement the proposal in schools.

-         how Green Platform can gives advice to the participants

- the Green Platform will provide advice on the feasibility of implementing the proposal in school. Participant groups can contact Green Platform for advice if there is any doubt during the .

1. Camp

1.1 Feasibility of holding the camp in July/August

1.1.1 There will not be a problem for the availability of the campsite.

1.1.2 There may not be tutor available.

1.1.3 It may be too rush for the preparation of the camp.

1.2 Discussions on the preparation of the camp

1.2.1 The proposed target participants will be form 4 to form 6 students.

1.2.2 The proposed number of target schools is 5 to 10.

1.2.3 There will be interview before the start of the camp to show formality of the function.

1.3 Discussions on the contents of the camp

1.3.1 Conference

Participants will be distributed into different countries for role play. During the half-day conference, they can know how to improve the present situation as an individual. The conference can also persuade them to take active actions in their daily life. It is important that the participants should have already had basic knowledge in the relevant political issues.

1.3.2 Proposal of reuse of computer material

It is discussed that it is possible to introduce a proposal of reuse of computer material during the camp. Some background information will be provided and 1 to 2 hours will be allowed for the group discussion. Each group will present their idea after the discussion.

1.3.3 Mass games/Ice-breaking

It is necessary to determine the proportion of duration of the mass games. The mass games can focus on environmental issues and to provide environmental information.

1.4 Factors affecting the decision on organizing the camp

1.4.1 If the camp cannot be held on July/August, there is high possibility of canceling the camp as it can avoid the delay of the coming proposed competition.

1.4.2 If the camp is not co-organized with BGCA, the camp will be cancelled.

1.4.3 Green platform will wait for the reply from BGCA.

2. reen Campaign?Competition

2.1 The original title of the function (Environmental Campaign Proposal Writing Competition) is now replaced by the new title (Green Campaign Competition).

2.2 Division of work

The work will be divided into certain parts and each committee member will take the whole responsibility in his/her own part.

2.3 Sponsorship seeking

2.3.1 The predicted expenditure in the price presentation ceremony will be large. It is doubtful that the Green Platform can have cash sponsor. It is necessary to find ways in fund raising in next meeting. Anny will begin drafting letters and e-mails, and will try to apply funding from EPD.

2.4 Preparation of short presentations for schools

The duration of the presentations will be around 15 to 30 minutes. Matthew will be responsible to draft the agenda of the presentations.

2.5 Works needed to be done

2.5.1 Registration of the Green Platform should be done before 7^th July, 07.

2.5.2 Every committee member need to prepare his/her own work in the coming two months

2.5.3 Publicity should have the basic draft in the coming meeting.

2.5.4 Find 5 to 10 core helpers (potential committee members). Every committee member need to determine number of helpers needed in each stage.

2.5.5 Find around 20 target schools (throughout HK).

2.5.6 Find co-organizers (e.g. Friends of the Earth).

3. The meeting was adjourned at 2115.

4. Next meeting will be held on the coming Saturday (7^th July, 2007) at 1800.
